Lombardi's and Grimaldi's
We began our journey for the best pizza in the
region on a mild Friday evening in
May. We first met at Lombardi's on Spring Street in
Manhattan. Lombardi's claims to be the oldest pizzeria in the
United States and we felt this was an appropriate start. more

Baldoria
There was great anticipation the
night we visited Baldoria, the new restaurant from Rao's heir
apparent, Frank Pelligrino Jr. Three of us had been fortunate
enough to visit Rao's last year in what is one of my most memorable
restaurant experiences. Unfortunately, our experience at
Baldoria pales in comparison with that magical night at Rao's.

Rigoletto
Recently, eight of
us took a trip to historic Arthur Avenue in the Belmont
section of the Bronx for a holiday meal. While the
neighborhood has always been a mix of cultures, it
remains an Italian haven for bread, pasta, meat, cheese,
and desserts. Some refer to Arthur Avenue as the
"Little Italy" of the Bronx, but those in the know will tell you that it is
much more authentic than Little Italy. more

La Giara
Moving to a different
neighborhood in Manhattan is like moving to a new city.
You have to find a good dry cleaner, a gym, a Chinese
take-out, and of course, a casual Italian
restaurant. more

Centro
Centro is a casual, family friendly Italian restaurant. We
were greeted at the door by an
enthusiastic young hostess. We were led to our table complete with crayons and
a table cloth you could draw on to keep the youngster and young at heart
occupied. more

Il Giglio
Upon arrival at this somewhat
isolated downtown sibling of Il Mulino, we knew we were
in for something special. As we waited at the bar area
while our table was prepared, we were greeted with a
delicious hot antipasto of fried zucchini. This was only
the beginning. more

Erminia
Remember those carefree days in
Venice, riding along in the gondola with your
sweetheart? The air was crisp but her hand was warm. Do
you want to recapture that feeling? Can you afford the
international airfare, the taxis, the gondola ride? more
