Centro
By Sal Torre
Centro is
a casual, family friendly Italian restaurant. We
were greeted at the door by an
enthusiastic young hostess. We were led to our table complete with crayons and
a tablecloth you could draw on to keep the youngster and young at heart
occupied. A basket of assorted breads and olive oil was delivered to the table
after being seated. Centro is
colorfully decorated with food to match. We started the meal
with carpaccio, sliced raw paper thin beef tenderloin served in olive
oil with capers, onions and parmesan cheese which brought out the flavor of the
beef. Also recommended was a special that night, a vegetable tower marinated in
olive oil consisting of thin
sliced portobello mushroom, green and yellow zucchini,
tomato and eggplant. The
minestrone soup was a fine example of this classic Italian dish loaded with
vegetables. The pasta kept up the colorful trend of the
restaurant. Pollo marcato
which consisted of chicken breast, artichoke hearts,
mushroom, tomatoes and roasted
peppers sautéed in olive oil and garlic tossed with penne pasta. The
combination was just right making this a satisfying but not "heavy
" pasta dish. Rigatoni alla vodka was a
good rendering of this
ubiquitous pasta dish in creamy tomato sauce with pancetta and onion. Centro also offers
sandwiches, burgers and pizza. We tried the pizza margherita. The thin
crusted pizza served individual style with marinara sauce and mozzarella was
tasty but slightly undercooked. Centro has a wonderful
view overlooking an old mill and waterfall. There is outdoor seating in good
weather. Price range from $13.95 to $16.95 for pastas and entrees. On the way
out do not slip on the pizza or be fooled and try to
pick up the money painted on the
white tile floor.
